Sulfuric Acid
Sulfuric acid, a highly corrosive mineral acid, is a very important commodity chemical throughout the world. In fact, a nation’s sulfuric acid production is often a good indicator of its industrial strength. Roughly 60% of the world’s sulfuric acid production is used for fertilizers, especially superphosphates, ammonium phosphate, and ammonium sulfates. Around 20% is used in the chemical industry to produce things like detergents, pharmaceuticals, insecticides, antifreeze, and synthetic resins. Less than 10 % of the world’s sulfuric acid is used in relation to pigments in paints, inks, papers, and fabrics. Sulfuric acid is a clear, water-soluble liquid with a yellowish tint. You may be familiar with it around the house, as this chemical is frequently used as a major ingredient in acid drain cleaners to remove unwanted hair, tissue, grease, etc. from household drains like sinks and showers. Sulfuric acid is also heavily used as an industrial cleaning agent by the iron and steel making industries in order to remove oxidation, rust, and scaling from materials before they are sold.
At our Orlando chemical supply company, sulfuric acid is just one of the many chemical products we offer. In addition to reagent-grade chemical products and personal care raw materials in Orlando, we stock many hard to find tech-grade chemicals and custom compounds. Call us at 407-339-BELL (2355) for a full list of our chemical products.
Hydrochloric Acid
Hydrochloric acid (Muriatic Acid), a colorless solution produced by adding hydrogen chloride to water, is a highly corrosive mineral acid used as a reagent, meaning it is added to other solutions to bring about a chemical reaction. Hydrochloric acid occurs naturally in gastric acid and has many industrial uses and applications. Though unknown to many during this time, hydrochloric acid was first used by chemists during the Renaissance era to conduct scientific experiments and research. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, hydrochloric acid was used in the production of vinyl chloride for PVC plastic and MDI/TDI for polyurethane. Hydrochloric acid is now also used in the production of fertilizers and dyes.
In addition, hydrochloric acid has many small-scale applications including household cleaning, gelatin production, food additives, photography, and leather processing. This chemical is often used as a stain remover (for toilet bowls, concrete, etc.) and to balance the pH level of swimming pools. However, the most common use for this chemical is rust removal. Hydrochloric acid etches away at materials like metal, removing the rust from its surface.
Often referred to as muriatic acid, hydrochloric acid has many uses in both industrial and residential applications. As a leading chemical supply company in Orlando, Bell Chem offers fast delivery of any of our hundreds of chemicals. Hydrochloric acid is just one of the many industrial chemicals we offer. We also provide a wide variety of personal care, nutritional, and reagent-grade chemical products. Give us a call today at 407-339-BELL (2355) to place an order!

What You Didn’t Know About Oils!
Did you know you can run your car on oil? But more importantly, did you know oil is a common product we use every day? Here’s some information on just a few of the oils we provide here at our Florida chemical supply company: Eucalyptus oil, distilled from a type of myrtaceae plant native to Australia, can be used as an antiseptic, repellent, flavoring, pharmaceutical, and even as a fragrance. A few products that utilize this versatile oil are lotions and perfumes. Some baked goods and beverages even contain low amounts of eucalyptus oil.
Though recognized more in its natural state, garlic oil, when medically used, can harden arteries and reduce blood pressure. Garlic oil can also treat ear infections, acne, the common cold, and even backaches.
Coconut oil has a very high stability, which makes it slow to oxidize, and lasts up to two years due to its high saturated fat content. Not only is it used for food and industrial purposes, but also coconut oil has become a recent trend in hair and skin treatments.
From a bag of chips to household cleaners, oils are contained in many every day products. Let our Florida chemical supply company provide the right oil for you. Call us today at 407-339-BELL(2355) to order your quality chemical products!
Alkaline & Acid Cleaning Products
There is a wide variety of chemical cleaners that have characteristics suited for different applications. Some may be alkaline based, while others may contain acidic compounds. Each sits differently on the pH scale, but what do they actually do? Acidic cleaners are typically used to remove mineral deposits or rust stains on surfaces such as sinks and glassware. Since many mineral deposits are more soluble in solutions with an acidic pH, acidic cleaners are most ideal to remove these deposits. Strongly acidic or basic cleaners can be hazardous, causing corrosion of metal surfaces or human tissue.
Alkaline cleaners, like baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, can be used to clean surfaces like glass and tile. These effectively remove grease, oils, and fats; laundry detergents are alkaline and effective in removing stains from clothing. These alkaline cleaners loosen the bond between the oils and the surfaces you are cleaning.
Alkaline and acidic cleaners will react with one another, like baking soda and vinegar. Many applications actually involve the combination of both alkaline and acidic cleaners to aid in the cleaning process. As a top quality chemical supplier in Orlando, we offer the sanitation products you need to get the job done. Call us at 407-339-BELL (2355) for a full list of chemical products.
Lactose
Lactose is a disaccharide sugar made from galactose and glucose. Lactose is most commonly found in the milk of mammals, making up between 2 and 8% of it, depending on the specific type of milk. In fact, several million tons of lactose are produced each year as a by-product of the dairy industry. Both pure lactose and dairy by-products containing lactose have applications in the food industry. For example, lactose can be used to sweeten stout beer, which results in a beer called a “milk (or cream) stout”. Lactose is also heavily used in the pharmaceutical industry. This reagent-grade chemical can carry and stabilize aromas, and even act as a filler in pills.
Lactose, also known as “milk sugar” has many general properties and characteristics that make it desirable in the food and pharmaceutical industries. For example, lactose is highly available, compatible with other ingredients, physically and chemically stable, and water soluble. It is also a very cost effective chemical to use.
As a top quality chemical supply company in Orlando, we look forward to the opportunity to provide you with quality reagent-grade chemicals like lactose. We have a full-time document coordinator as well as quality inspectors to ensure the accuracy and quality of your orders. Give our Florida chemical company a call today at 407-339-BELL(2355).
Acetone
Acetone is a good solvent for a wide range of organic compounds because of its chemical composition and other general properties. The structure of acetone consists of a carbon atom surrounded by an oxygen atom and two CH3 groups. The physical properties of acetone include a high evaporation rate, low viscosity, and miscibility with water, as well as other organic compounds. About 30% of the world’s supply of acetone is used as a solvent, most commonly in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used as a denaturant in denatured alcohol and as a carrier in pharmaceutical drugs. Also, this tech-grade chemical has applications in the cosmetic, medical, food packaging, cleaning, and food additive industries. For example, acetone is often used as the primary agent in nail polish remover and is also used by make-up artists to help remove the skin adhesive from wigs and mustaches.
Be careful when using this chemical because it is known to be slightly toxic, colorless, and highly flammable. At temperatures greater than -4 degrees Fahrenheit (its flash point), acetone can catch on fire or explode. Also, if a highly concentrated form of acetone is inhaled, it can cause throat irritation.
As a leading chemical supply company in Orlando, Bell Chem offers fast delivery of any of our hundreds of chemicals. Acetone is just one of the many tech-grade/water treatment chemicals we offer at Bell Chem. We also provide a wide variety of personal care, nutritional, and reagent-grade chemical products. Caffeine
Caffeine is a stimulant used both recreationally and medically to reduce fatigue and restore alertness. This chemical produces increased wakefulness, clearer thought processes, enhanced focus, and better general body coordination. The amount of caffeine needed to produce these effects varies depending on a person’s body mass and sensitivity to the chemical. Because this food chemical is readily available as a byproduct of decaffeination, caffeine is not usually synthesized chemically. Caffeine is water-soluble (and lipid-soluble) and therefore easily crosses the barrier that separates the bloodstream from the center of the brain. Once in the brain, this chemical works to counteract the effects of adenosine, a substance that reduces neural activity levels.
90% of American adults consume caffeine on a daily basis. One of the world's main sources of caffeine is the coffee bean, from which coffee is brewed. Other common sources of caffeine include tea and (to a lesser extent) chocolate. Less common sources of caffeine include the yerba maté, guarana and ilex guayusa plants, which are used in the preparation of teas and energy drinks.
As a top-quality chemical supplier in Orlando, Tampa, and Daytona Beach, we look forward to the opportunity to provide your business with quality chemical products and unrivaled customer service. We have a full-time document coordinator as well as quality inspectors to ensure the accuracy and quality every order. Give us a call today at 407-339-BELL (2355) to order chemicals!
Aspartame
Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages, especially “diet” foods. This food-grade chemical is about 200 times sweeter than sucrose, or table sugar. Therefore, since the quantity of aspartame needed to produce a sweet taste is so miniscule, the calorie count is negligible. Among the FDA approved artificial sweeteners, the taste of aspartame comes closest to that of actual sugar. Additionally, aspartame is often blended with other artificial sweeteners like acesulfame potassium to produce a taste even more like table sugar. Aspartame is usually undesirable as a baking sugar because it breaks down when heated. However, the stability of aspartame in heat can be slightly improved by covering it in maltodextrin.
Although there has been stipulation that aspartame can cause harmful effects on the body, current scientific evidence indicates that aspartame is safe at current levels of consumption as a non-nutritive sweetener. However, because aspartame can break down into the chemical phenylalanine, aspartame must be avoided by anyone with the condition phenylketonuria.
At our chemical supply company in Orlando, we offer aspartame as one of our many food/reagent-grade chemical products. We also stock personal care raw materials, highly specialized botanical ingredients, as well as hard to find technical grade chemicals and custom compounds. Call us at 407-339-BELL (2355) for a full list of chemical products.
